Live in-browser transcription

UK-based session transcription with consent and under your encryption key.

You can dictate after a session or transcribe the session itself live in your browser, with the audio going from your device direct to an EU-based speech-to-text service in Dublin under the UK Addendum to the EU SCCs, never travelling through Cogent's own servers, and the transcripts coming back encrypted under your key, stored under the relevant client folder in the UK, and kept until you delete them.

01What it is for

Two modes built on the same architecture.

Dictation is what most clinicians use first, opening the browser after a session and saying what happened in their own words while the text appears as they speak, so they can edit it before it ever leaves the page. Live session transcription is opt-in on the Professional tier and only with the consenting client, with audio captured during the session converted to text in real time so there is a transcript at the end, and the transcript is then anonymised and used to draft the note in your modality's conventions. Both modes use the same architecture, which is to say the audio goes from your browser direct to the speech-to-text service and never travels through Cogent's own servers.

02The path the audio takes

From your microphone to a UK-stored transcript.

  1. 01

    Consent first.

Per-client consent is set inside the client folder, and live transcription cannot start until that consent has been recorded, with a printable consent template available on the For clients page if you would rather sign on paper before opening the browser.

  2. 02

Audio leaves the browser only to the speech-to-text service.

The connection is browser-to-Dublin direct, with Cogent's own servers not in that path at all, and the provider is contractually opted out of using audio or transcripts to train any model.

  3. 03

Audio is not stored, and only the transcript text comes back.

The provider returns text, and the audio itself is processed in flight and discarded once the transcript has been produced.

  4. 04

Transcript is encrypted on your device.

Before any storage, your browser encrypts the transcript under a key derived from your password, with Cogent storing only the encrypted version inside the UK and never holding a key that would let it read what is inside.

  5. 05

A 24-hour local backup protects the transcript while you are still working.

If you close the tab before saving the transcript to the client folder, an encrypted local copy keeps it safe for twenty-four hours so you can recover it, and it is cleared automatically after that window.

03Allowance and retention

Twenty-five hours each month on the Professional tier, with the transcripts kept until you delete them.

The Professional tier includes twenty-five hours of live session transcription each month, and by default a session stops cleanly when you reach your monthly cap, the transcript is saved, and you can resume on the first of the following month when the allowance resets, with optional overage at £0.04 per minute available as an opt-in from Settings so that nobody ever receives a surprise bill. Transcripts are kept under the relevant client folder until you delete them, encrypted under your key, stored inside the United Kingdom, and never used for any purpose other than your own work, and deleting the account removes everything once the seven-day grace period has elapsed.

Try it on this week's work.

The free tier covers ten generations a month with no card to start and no time limit on the trial, so you only upgrade when Cogent has earned at least the cost of a session in time saved.
